ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Mario X. Soto is a native New Yorker born and raised in the Big Apple. For the last 25 years, he has worked as a professional Equity Actor/Director/Dancer/Puppeteer. Trained at the Boston Conservatory of Music, he has toured throughout the US and Europe with numerous musicals such as Hair and A Chorus Line and shows for Cirque Du Soleil and at Radio City Music Hall. With his varied training and extensive Children’s Theater experience, Mario decided to use his theater skills and love of children to create his own puppet show for kids called Mariolio and the Hip Hoppets. He’s had a steady gig ever since and has entertained with his own brand of light-hearted comedy throughout the Tri-State and New England areas for over 10 years! Being raised in the inner city, Mario believes his exposure to the theater arts was key in the development of his own healthy self-esteem and it is his hope to instill this in other children. As an instructor, Mario’s supportive whimsical personality creates a safe environment for children to explore their imaginations. With the tools of improvisation, theater games and pantomime, each child will develop confidence and further their ability for self-expression. These theater techniques will teach students teamwork, communication skills and a better understanding of the world around them. Also, children will discover their own individual artistic voice, and, hopefully, gain a life-long appreciation for the theater. (Not to mention create loads of wacky, fun memories!) Mario looks forward to returning to Auburn Public Theater’s Summer Theater Workshop and to beginning a thrilling exploration into the surprising and wonderful world of your child’s imagination.
For more information or to register your child, please contact Janie MicGlire by email at janie@auburnpublictheater.com or call her at the theater at (315) 253-6669.
An open casting call will be held at Auburn Public Theater at the end of June to allow Mario the opportunity to meet enrolled students and cast the play.  This will not be a traditional audition. All children who register for the workshop will be cast in the play.
A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available. Please contact Janie MicGlire (see above) for more information.
